Morment Studios: independent cinema, ad films, and visual narratives

Every frame is a decision.

A still from Be nice to your shadow

Morment Studios is an independent film studio in Mumbai. We make narrative films, ad films, and music and culture work, and we make each one as if it is the only film we will ever get to make.

Storytelling is the reason this studio exists.

Not the format, not the budget, not the deadline. A story told well changes how someone sees their own life, even for a moment. That is worth protecting.

People forget facts. They remember how a story made them feel.

Everyone is talking now, and almost nobody is listening. Feeds move faster than anyone can feel anything. A story is the one form that asks you to slow down, sit with someone who is not you, and come out the other side a little changed. It is the oldest way humans pass on what matters, and nothing invented since has replaced it.

Where we learned it

“When people ask me if I went to film school, I tell them, no, I went to films.”

Quentin Tarantino

We learned the same way. Morment started with watching closely and asking how a scene made us feel that.

“To be an artist means never to avert one's eyes.”

Akira Kurosawa

We point the camera at the uncomfortable parts too. The shadow, the doubt, the waiting. That is usually where the story is.

“Cinema is a matter of what's in the frame and what's out.”

Martin Scorsese

Every frame is a decision. That includes everything we choose to leave out.

Made by people.

We do not use AI to generate people, performances or stories. Every actor is a real person, every line is written by someone who meant it, and every cut is a decision a human made. We use modern tools in VFX and finishing, where they help us realise what we shot, never to replace it. The work is never handed to a machine.

A still from Inspiration

We protect it two ways.

With ethics: honest credit, fair conditions on set, no shortcut that costs someone else. With intent: we only make films we would still make if nobody was watching.
